A walking tour of the trail

Eight views.
One steady climb.

Ridge is built around eight simple views, each answering one specific question on the trail. No dashboards-for-the-sake-of-dashboards. No vanity metrics. Just the numbers you need to take the next step with confidence.

01 · Overview

The morning weather report.

The first thing you check before stepping out, the last thing you check before sleep. Free to spend, pace, today's transactions, what's pending, what's coming. One look and you know if today is a clear-trail day or a hunker-down day.

  • Free to spend, front and centreOne trustworthy figure that already accounts for surplus, planned outgoings, and pay arriving.
  • Pace check at a glanceAre you under, over, or right where you should be at this point in the cycle?
  • Trajectory, not just balanceA small spark line shows where your net worth is heading — because the present moment alone isn't the story.

02 · Envelopes

Every dollar with a foothold.

Four envelope types cover the entire shape of money: spend (groceries, fuel), goal (next holiday, next summit), planned (annual rego, insurance), and wealth (mortgage redraw, ETFs). Place the foothold once and the rollover, accrual, and goal maths handle the rest.

  • Smart per-envelope rulesRollover for groceries. Per-cycle reset for petty cash. Auto-fill for goals. The defaults are right, and you can override anything.
  • Goal envelopes that pace themselvesSet a target and a date — the per-cycle allocation calculates itself, including the part already accrued.
  • Wealth envelopes link to net worthRepay the mortgage, transfer to ETFs — the same dollar that leaves your spending shows up climbing on the other side.

03 · Transactions

The receipt drawer, finally tidied.

Every transaction, auto-classified, deduped, and tagged. Pending and settled live side by side; capitalised interest and internal transfers are flagged so they don't pollute your spend. Re-categorise once and it learns the rule for next time.

  • Learns from a single correctionReclassify Coles once — every Coles transaction past, present, and future gets the same envelope.
  • Pending → settled, transparentlyWhen a "PENDING $50" turns into a "$48.75" charge two days later, we replace it in place. No double-counting.
  • Brand-aware merchant names"WW METRO 2398 SYDNEY *POS" becomes Woolworths. Aliases stick across every matching transaction.

04 · History

The path behind you.

Six cycles of spend, allocation, and surplus side by side — the ridgeline you've already walked. The heatmap shows every day at a glance: the over-spends, the quiet weeks, the recurring patterns you didn't know were there.

  • 6-cycle heatmapEvery day a square. Bigger spends darker, under-budget days softer. Find your patterns in seconds.
  • Budget changes preservedAdjusted your grocery budget last cycle? The history view remembers what was true then — no retroactive rewriting.
  • Surplus, where it wentSee exactly where each cycle's leftover money was steered — to a goal, to wealth, or held as float.

05 · Net worth

The summit, in view.

Your account balance is a snapshot of where you stand. Net worth is the climb itself. Property, cash, super, equities, debts, credit cards, other liabilities — all in one place, all updating themselves, all converging on the summit.

  • Mortgage redraw, surfacedThe redraw / offset balance is computed from your actual repayments — the number you'd see if you logged into the bank.
  • Equity prices from your sheetHook up a Google Sheet of prices and your portfolio updates itself. No brokerage API. No subscription.
  • History snapshotsNet worth is captured automatically over time, so you can see the line — not just a single point.

06 · Projection

The terrain ahead.

Most apps let you pull a slider and watch a fairy-tale forecast — a summit you'll never reach. We back-out your effective interest rate from the actual capitalised interest in your transactions, so the projected clearance date is a peak you might genuinely hit.

  • Inferred rate, not a guessYour bank's interest charges are the truth. We let them speak.
  • Rate-change bannerWhen your effective rate drifts, we tell you — so you can refinance, or rerun the projection knowing what changed.
  • Years and months savedAdd an extra $200 a fortnight and watch the clearance date move — in calendar terms, not basis points.

07 · Import

The stream, flowing in.

Drop a CSV from your bank or hook up a Google Sheet that auto-syncs. Transactions flow in like a tributary into the stream — dedup is automatic, classification is automatic, and you only get prompted when something genuinely needs your eyes.

  • Two paths inDirect Frollo CSV upload, or a Google Sheet that syncs every time you sign in.
  • Smarter than a unique-key checkFuzzy matching on date, amount, and merchant catches duplicates that survive an export-reformat-reupload cycle.
  • Auto-classified at the doorBy account, by merchant pattern, by your learned rules. The unclassified pile is small by design.
